Profile Summary

The purpose of this role is to assist and lead in the identification, assessment, quantification, monitoring and reporting of Operational Risks across multiple Mizuho entities including, London and EMEA offices.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Support the delivery of key ORM deliverables, including:

  • Review and challenge of internal risk events, ensuring the root cause of events are fully understood, control issues are accurately identified, and remedial actions are appropriate and tracked. Demonstrate strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.
  • Log operational incident challenges, perform initial categorization, and ensure completeness and accuracy of supporting evidence.
  • Prepare MI outputs, data extracts and summary tables to support senior reporting and governance requirements.
  • Support the delivery of Risk & Control Self-Assessments, including the assessment of control effectiveness, review of Issue Impact Assessments, conducting inherent and residual risk evaluations, and preparation of related Executive Summary papers. Apply critical thinking, structured problem-solving, and clear written communication to ensure high-quality outputs.
  • Support the review and assessment of Operational Risk scenarios and capital calculations, contributing data analysis, documentation quality, and collaboration with internal stakeholders to maintain accuracy and consistency.
  • Support ORM and business initiatives, such as KRI reviews, new product approvals, and other cross-functional risk activities. Exhibit adaptability, proactive engagement, and collaborative working behaviors, to meet evolving business needs.
  • Provide first-line support for local operational risk systems, resolving user queries, maintaining data integrity, and escalating issues appropriately. Apply problem-solving skills, customer-service orientation, and ownership of tasks to ensure effective system usage.
  • Co-ordinate and prepare Operational Risk Committee agenda, papers and minutes, ensuring timely delivery, accuracy, and clarity of information. Demonstrate strong organisational skills, stakeholder management, and professional communication when interacting with senior audiences.

 

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Experience in operational risk management preferable, with a strong understanding of control frameworks.
  • Knowledge of corporate banking products, processes and end-to-end risk drivers.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple deliverables and engage effectively with stakeholders.
  • A Level to Degree level education (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Solid understanding of mathematics or statistics relevant to risk assessment.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel capability (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver clear, concise analysis.
  • Collaborative working style and ability to build relationships with stakeholders across business areas.
  • Adaptability, proactivity and willingness to develop broader operational risk expertise.
  • Knowledge of Access/VBA or progress toward professional certifications (e.g., IRM, ICA) is desirable.
