Mizuho’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) regional coverage is headquartered in London, where our two primary UK operating entities – Mizuho International plc (MHI) and Mizuho Bank, London Branch – are based. Both MHI and Mizuho Bank London Branch fall under FCA and PRA supervision.
Mizuho has recently gone through a period of transformation towards a Corporate and Investment Banking model, whereby our banking and capital markets businesses have become more closely aligned.
The Compliance Department is an independent function that identifies, assesses, advises on and monitors compliance risk. The Compliance Department exists to support relevant Mizuho entities by enabling them to conduct business lawfully, in accordance with regulatory requirements and with integrity. The Regulatory Relations function sits within the overall Compliance Department, with responsibility for managing relations with the FCA and PRA and effective follow through on regulatory requests as set out below.
We are looking to engage a permanent head of regulatory relations who will ensure that all FCA and PRA requests are met on time and to quality standards.
This role has important responsibilities in helping to ensure the Compliance Department effectively discharges its responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Management of relations with PRA and FCA, including co-ordinating, overseeing and contributing to preparation of correspondence with the UK regulators, communicating with internal stakeholders on incoming regulatory correspondence and requests, and ensuring completion of responses to time and quality requirements.
- Tracking and coordination of internal action plans to ensure timely and high-quality delivery on specific regulatory requests
- Participating in project work related to delivering regulatory actions and requirements as needed
- Providing assistance to the Mizuho UK Head of Compliance as required
- Advising other teams and SMFs (senior managers) on regulatory requests.
- Leading on preparation of updates for key internal governance committees (e.g. Audit and Compliance Committee) including on delivery of regulatory actions.
- Providing advice to the Regulatory Developments function on potential impact of new regulatory developments on Mizuho business
- Key member of Mizuho London Compliance management and leadership team
- Line management of staff as required
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Significant experience (typically 10+ years) in investment banking, banking compliance, regulatory relations, or financial regulation.
- Strong understanding of the UK regulatory regime for wholesale banks and associated risk and control requirements.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Proven stakeholder management capabilities.
- A collaborative approach and commitment to supporting team success.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience managing or mentoring others.
