Profile Summary
This is a position in the Contingent Risk team, within Counterparty Credit Risk, which sits within the EMEA CIB Credit Risk (CIB CR) function of Mizuho EMEA. This role will support this activity and sit within Group 1 of the CIB CR team. Contingent Risk plays a key role in strategically delivering on the One Mizuho theme of which the CIB model is a key initiative. The team aims to be a strategic partner to the front office without compromising on our independent control capacity within CIB CR. We do this firstly by playing a role in the development of strategic initiatives such as providing risk oversight of our financing activities across Mizuho International and Mizuho Bank, particularly as concerns structured financing and structured credit. The team also leads discussions on non-standard/structured deals from a risk management perspective and conducts regular evaluation of new deal structures and product initiatives. By participating in strategy discussions ranging from risk appetite to liquidity concerns, contributing to the development of our analytics platform, particularly for fixed income, financing and structured products, you will be playing a key role in making Mizuho the risk aware bank of choice.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Understand, analyse and quantify the risks that’s Mizuho EMEA takes with its counterparties/clients
- Liaise with the desk (traders, structurers, quants), risk managers to approve new trades and business initiatives, particularly those that are complex or structured
- Participate in the review and enhancement of existing stress testing methodologies to meet the needs of Mizuho and external regulatory requirements
- Develop tools/approaches that allow RMD to better monitor and explain risks
- Participate in the review and calibration of our credit exposures
- Provide advisory on our limit frameworks, risk appetite and exposure reporting
- Participate in and drive the review of Portfolio & Concentration risks within and across counterparties
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential
- BSc or above in Statistics, Mathematical economics/Financial Engineering or similar discipline is essential with outstanding and broad based quantitative skills
- Experience working with risk management concepts or financial products (e.g., derivatives, securities financing), typically gained over about two years or through equivalent practical exposure.
- Strong understanding of credit markets such as knowledge of Fixed income maths and the risks in underlying products
- Understanding of counterparty risk management techniques, trading strategies as well as other qualitative and quantitative measures of credit worthiness
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of Market Risk (VaR, Sensitivities, Stress)
- Broad understanding of limit frameworks, risk appetite and exposure reporting
- Knowledge of techniques for the analysis of time series and market data
- Proven understanding of the macro-economic environment and respective drivers
- Use of PowerPoint, Excel (including VBA) and Bloomberg
- Ability to develop and build close working relationships with others (Risk Control, middle office and the Business)
- Good organisational and communication skills, ability to communicate at all levels and deliver technical explanations in lay-man’s terms, as important components of the role involves liaising with various business groups across the bank and senior management
- Innovation and continuous improvement: being creative, developing new ideas and approaches
- Ability to maintain confidentiality as some of our work involves working on non-public deals
Desirable
- Working exposure to Fixed Income (Bonds, Loans), derivatives (CLNs, CDS), and Structured Products (Securitizations, CLOs) and financing formats (Repo, TRS)
- Ability to assimilate large amounts of data and transform into consumable information
- Ability to assess, propose and deliver changes to fixed income asset valuations
- Ability to constructively influence other departments and individuals
