Profile Summary

The successful candidate will join the Business Change and Governance Team (the Team). The Team sits within the Banking Chief Operating Office (COO) which supports the front office (FO) activities of Mizuho EMEA’s Corporate and Institutional Banking division (CIB Banking). CIB Banking covers Banking clients (including corporate finance, project finance, strategic advisory solutions, leveraged finance) and Capital Market clients (including DCM, DCM syndication, securitised products, ECM).

The Team is responsible for establishing a golden source of CIB Banking data including the collation, governance, continuous improvement and enhancement of this data. This golden source of data will support strategic decisions and enhance the effective operation of CIB Banking. To achieve its objectives, the Team partners with:

  • FO teams to manage queries and gain insights into CIB Banking clients and data.
  • Banking COO teams, including the Central Portfolio Management Team (Client and Capital Strategy and Client Analytics teams) and Business Reporting Team.
  • Various other Mizuho teams including IT, Finance, ESG etc.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience working with FO teams on both “change the bank” and “run the bank” activities and have a proven track record of success in a complex financial services environment.
  • Have a genuine interest in how FO teams operate and how data can be used to enhance client and FO outcomes.
  • Be a pro-active self-starter with SQL and Python skills and have knowledge of cloud platforms. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Data management, governance and oversight

  • Responsible for CIB Banking data governance, drive changes to improve data governance, streamlining operational processes, document and maintain data management processes.
  • Create ETL pipelines and automated processes for ingesting and processing data.
  • Be responsible for the the current and future state of the data warehouse architecture, including data sourcing, data validation, data ingestion, database optimisation, tools, technologies and best practice.
  • Lead on and be responsible for ensuring the data warehouse can be used as a corporate resource, integrating its outputs with Salesforce, PowerBI, Dealogic, pricing tools and other analytical endpoints where necessary.
  • Enhance the CIB banking data warehouse by augmenting data to enable other CIB Banking teams (e.g. Business Reporting Team) to access this golden source of data.
  • Meticulously interrogate the quality of CIB Banking data, ensuring all historic data is structured systematically and consistently with a view to enhancing historic data to align with new data model changes.
  • Document all recommendations through comprehensive business requirements.
  • Support the building of new robust data models to support internal management information and analysis, with the purpose of supporting LLM and Gen AI initiatives
  • Investigate and work effectively with colleagues from other disciplines to address and improve data quality, leveraging your knowledge of industry best practices.
  • Manage the data quality and client hierarchy within Salesforce, working with our client on-boarding colleagues to ensure consistency between systems.

Change management

  • Responsible for ensuring successful change management for all data related activities, including managing change for these activities, documenting business requirements, performing UAT and regression testing.
  • Act as the Team’s main point of contact for third party data solution providers, other Mizuho teams and regional data providers.
  • Act as a champion for continuous improvement, identifying opportunities for enhancing data provision processes and automation. 

Stakeholder engagement and leadership

  • Serve as a key point of contact and SME for data related matters for CIB Banking. Liaise with FO colleagues, senior leaders, IT and other support functions.
  • streaFoster strong relationships internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on data management priorities.
  • Promote a culture of integrity, accountability, and transparency across the organisation.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Proven data analysis experience and maintenance of data systems.
  • Strong SQL skills and ability to create queries to extract and build tables.
  • Experience in project work and meeting strict deadlines
  • End-to-end experience working with ETL tools.
  • Strong financial knowledge and understanding of accounting concepts and standards.
  • Strong understanding of large dataset interrogation and financial/management information systems.
  • Strong knowledge of data modelling techniques and methodologies in a financial context.
  • Proven experience with at least one major Cloud Data Warehouse Solution (e.g. Snowflake).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python
  • Educated to degree level in a STEM subject with minimum of 5 years of experience in a large financial institution.
  • Experience using Salesforce or other CRM systems
  • Strong team player, confident self-starter with excellent communication skills
