Profile Summary
Mizuho’s CIB Structured Financing Group (CSF) is a product team responsible for structuring and execution of a broad range of structured finance transactions, working in partnership with client-facing relationship teams. Within CSF, the Stratum team operates as a dedicated sub-team, actively managing portfolios of European leveraged loans across broadly syndicated and direct lending transactions on behalf of third-party capital.
Stratum is Mizuho’s Managed Account platform that leverages Mizuho’s deal origination and portfolio management expertise to construct and manage bespoke portfolios for investors. The team works across a diversified set of assets, requiring disciplined credit analysis, strong financial modelling and effective coordination with internal stakeholders and external counterparties.
As an Associate within Stratum, you will support both the execution of new transactions and the ongoing management of existing Stratum vehicles including new investments. You will contribute to financial analysis, credit assessment and transaction processes, working closely with senior team members and developing experience across structured financing products and client engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the structuring and execution of structured finance transactions across CSF, with a focus on Stratum investments
- Assist in the ongoing management of the Stratum vehicles, identify emerging risks within the portfolio and escalate to senior team members with supporting analysis
- Support credit analysis and preparation of internal approval materials across broadly syndicated loans, direct lending, and new Stratum transactions
- Build and maintain financial models, including base case and downside scenarios for new Stratum transactions
- Support the approval process for new assets, including liaising with investors as necessary
- Contribute to client and investor-related materials, including reporting and portfolio updates
- Co-ordinate with internal teams, including Account Officers, credit, legal, middle and back office
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- 3-5 years’ experience in leveraged finance, structured finance, credit or a related discipline
- Strong foundation in credit analysis across a range of sectors and financing structures
- Solid financial modelling capability, including cash flow modelling and scenario analysis
- Understanding of structured financing products and transaction execution processes
- Exposure to portfolio management and ongoing monitoring of credit assets
- Familiarity with fund structures, managed accounts or investor-driven capital (preferred)
- Experience contributing to investor reporting, portfolio updates or performance analysis (preferred)
- Progress towards or interest in a professional qualification such as CFA (preferred)
- Advanced IT skills (VBA, Python) combined with effective use of AI tools to drive automation, data analysis and process optimisation (preferred)
