Profile Summary

 

The role of the Associate is to intensively support and assist the Strategic Solutions Group to work in tandem with the Global RM’s and other client facing entities within Mizuho. Provide high value-add modelling and Corporate Finance analysis to the clients in order to improve client impact, deepen corporate relationships and maximize revenue opportunities for the bank.

 

Strategic Solutions Group: Sector based corporate finance advisory team providing analyses of clients strategic financing requirements, partnering with coverage and products to deliver value-add mandates and contribute to advisory execution. Team capabilities include financial modelling for corporate finance analysis, credit ratings analysis, valuation, sector-based research to support idea generation and pitch preparation, synthesising outputs of analytical work

 

Client Engagement: SSG serves as a advisor to clients on credit ratings and capital structure strategy, positioning, and optimisation, with the focus on supporting capital raising and liability management activities of Mizuho

 

Strategic Advisory: SSG provides expert guidance to clients on developing and implementing transition and strategic portfolio management strategies, leveraging insights from market research and collaborating with product teams to deliver comprehensive solutions.

 

Deal Origination: SSG supports origination efforts by identifying opportunities and collaborating with coverage bankers, Greenhill and DCM/ECM teams. Proactively identifying and pursuing opportunities to originate advisory mandates and cross-selling opportunities across the EMEA region and globally where appropriate.

 

Cross-functional Collaboration: SSG works closely with coverage and product teams to develop and execute integrated client strategies, leveraging the full range of banking products and services to meet clients' needs. Ensure all deal origination activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies, working closely with legal and risk management teams to mitigate risks effectively.

 

Thought Leadership: SSG contributes to thought leadership including sector updates, regulatory development, and strategic insights related to ratings landscape.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Support (Senior) Directors on all pitch efforts and deal execution.
  • Creating and implementing financial models in the origination, execution, and support of deals
  • Preparing corporate finance analysis, including but not limited to: M&A, valuation, credit ratings, capital structure, and capital allocation analysis
  • Conducting and summarising research, including but not limited to: collecting and analysing data on company financial statements, credit ratings, market trends, and macro trends
  • Preparing presentation material in the origination, execution, and support of deals
  • Coordinating with Clients and Mizuho Industry and Product Teams
  • Support industry specialisation by tracking key developments & deals
  • Create and maintain a strong network of contacts across the Mizuho group, maintain an active dialogue with industry counterparts
  • Other duties as may be requested by the DGM or Senior Directors of ECFD in support of ECFD’s ongoing business requirements

 

 

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

 

  • Strong financial modelling skills, the ability to construct a three-statement financial model of a company from scratch
  • Relevant work experience in this field –within a Corporate and Investment Bank
  • Fluency in the principles of corporate finance, including but not limited to: valuation, liquidity analysis, cash flow analysis, acquisition/divestiture analysis, ratings analysis, and capital structure analysis
  • Experience in corporate credit analysis is a plus
  • Proven track record in desktop analysis and strong technical skill set and ability to interpret and analyse corporate accounts
  • Experience with company valuations
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills both internal to the bank and external towards customers; fostering team spirit and team work through supporting colleagues in their work
  • Excellent leadership, team-management skills and the ability to motivate others
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to build good relationships
  • Self-motivation and the ability to manage time effectively
  • University Degree
  • Ideally, 2-3 years experience in a top investment bank
